Performing Arithmetic
- Oracle can perform arithmetic in SQL statements.
- Arithmetic in SQL statements include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Arithmetic expressions consist of two operands, numbers or dates, and an arithmetic operator.
- "2 * 6" is an example of an expression.
- An expression may contain a combination of columns, literal values, and operators.
The four arithmetic operators are:

Using Columns in Arithmetic
Operands may also be columns from a table.
In the following example, the first name and salary columns are selected.
2 is added to the value in the salary column using the addition operator (+).
