SIGN(0)

SQL> select SIGN(0) from dual;
   SIGN(0)
----------
         0

SIGN(-5)

SQL> select SIGN(-5) from dual;
  SIGN(-5)
----------
        -1

SIGN(5) (2)

SQL> select SIGN(5) from dual;
   SIGN(5)
----------
         1

SIGN(x) gets the sign of x. SIGN() returns -1 if x is negative, 1 if x is positive, or 0 if x is zero.

The following example displays the sign of -5, 5, and 0, respectively:

SQL>
SQL> SELECT SIGN(-5), SIGN(5), SIGN(0) FROM dual;
  SIGN(-5)    SIGN(5)    SIGN(0)
---------- ---------- ----------
        -1          1          0
